The
Liaison Librarian
reports to the Manager for Information Literacy and has responsibility for information literacy, reference, and collection development. As such, the librarian will be responsible for:
Providing instruction in library skills and information literacy. Our instruction programs include the creation and maintenance of online media such as guides, tutorials, videos, and knowledge base answers. Group instruction, such as online webinars and live, face-to-face presentations are also part of the Library’s instruction programs. Liaison also works with course developers to incorporate information literacy into Walden courses.
Providing reference service to Walden students, faculty, and staff by phone and email. All librarians participate in regular reference shifts during which they assist users affiliate! d with all academic programs. All librarians may be required t! o work reference shifts on nights and weekends.
Acting as a liaison to one or more of the University Colleges and/or programs. This includes outreach to internal and external customers, course and program development support, instructional and collections needs analysis, developing specialized instruction for students of the College, and providing faculty research support.
Keeping current and involved in developments in the fields of librarianship, online higher education, information literacy, information technology, and the disciplinary field to whom you liaise. This includes conference and workshop attendance, monitoring social media and online networking, and other means to be determined in partnership with the manager.
Analyzing current collections and recommending electronic resources for purchase. Collection development activities include reviewing internal use and other library statistics to determine needs, recommending new titles or data! bases for trial access, assisting the collection manager in procuring pricing information, and review and collection of open access materials.
Although Walden is an online institution some travel is required for this position: approximately one trip per quarter of five days' duration.
Education and / or Experience:
Required:
ALA accredited master's degree
At least one year of online academic library reference experience including email, IM or web
Experience searching the major academic databases
Expert-level research ability in online databases
Experience teaching information literacy skills including the use of online databases
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
