Our continued growth has created an opportunity for a Laboratory Technical Consultant. The laboratory technical consultant is responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of the HealthPartners clinic laboratories in their region. One technical consultant will be responsibl! e for multiple sites, some including urgent care. The technica! l consultant works in collaboration with the clinic Care Delivery Supervisor (CDS) to coordinate technical staffing needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Technical and scientific oversight of HealthPartnersâ Clinic Laboratories to ensure quality test performance.
- Selects test methodologies and instrumentation appropriate for clinical use.
- Verifies test procedures performed and establishes the laboratoryâs performance criteria, including the accuracy and precision of each test and test system.
- Enrolls laboratory in an approved proficiency testing (PT) program commensurate with services offered. Documents, reviews and monitors PT results.
- Ensures instrument performance to include calibration, maintenance records, quality control and troubleshooting.
- Monitors, reviews, and documents quality control records. Resolves technical problems and ensures remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from th! e laboratoryâs established performance specifications.
- Identifies training needs and ensures testing personnel receive regular in-service training.
- Evaluates the competency of all testing personnel on an ongoing basis.
- Reviews patient test results on a daily basis.
- Establishes and monitors Quality Assurance protocols to improve laboratory processes.
- Implements and monitors âPoint of Careâ testing within the clinic.
- Works in collaboration with the laboratory computer team on day to day operations and facilitates system enhancements and upgrades.
- Establishes and implements laboratory policies and procedures.
- Provides Quality Assurance and productivity reports to Laboratory Director as requested.
2. Develops, monitors and manages the clinical laboratory bud! get(s); maintains monthly cost indicator reports as per required protoc! ol.
3. Technical personnel management and development:
- Manages technical staffing schedule in collaboration with the CDS.
- Works with the CDS to establish and evaluate performance through appraisals and competency.
- Implements procedural, policy and computer changes, communicating appropriate information to laboratory personnel.
- Interviews and hires new technical staff in collaboration with the care delivery supervisor.
- Facilitates orientation for physicians, nursing staff and other clinic staff.
- Provides consultation to provider staff regarding laboratory procedures and policies.
- Works with medical staff to assure appropriate utilization of laboratory services.

- Works with staff and other supervisors to identify opportunities to improve patient satisfaction.
- Demonstrates professional development through participation in continuing education, special projects, and professional organizations.
- Bachelorâs degree in medical technology or a related field with NCA or ASCP certification.
- Five years of recent experience working in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Strong communication, problem solving, organizational and leadership skills.
- Thorough knowledge of laboratory regulatory (CLIA) requirements.
- Computer knowledge! and ability.
- ! Laboratory management experience preferred.
- Quality assurance and process improvement experience is a plus.
