Hours: 37.5 hrs/week, 6:00am-2:00pm, including every other weekend.

We are a Minnesota-based non-profit rehabilitation and resource center that empowers people with disabilities to realize their full potential in every aspect of life. We use a holistic approach that includes comprehensive rehabilitation therapies, independent living services, drivers services, a community reintegration program, accessible aquatics and fitness programs, camps, and adapted sports and recreation programs. We have an inpatient residential program for rehabilitation after brain injury, stroke and spinal cord injury, as well as a chronic pain rehabilitation program. We also advocate for people with disabilities at the legislature and in other public forums.

The Courage Center inpatient Tran! sitional Rehabilitation Program serves individuals with spinal! cord injuries, brain injuries and stroke, as well as people with congenital disabilities such as spina bifida, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Guillian-Barre, etc.

While in the Transitional Rehabilitation Program, individuals may participate in therapy, career training and driver assessment training as they learn about gaining a more independent lifestyle. Program staff partner with participants in creating an individualized, goal-focused rehabilitation program. Clients have access to all Courage Center programs and services based on their individual needs and interests.

Through active participation in therapies and activities of daily living, individuals are challenged to demonstrate personal responsibility and gain greater independence. Through mutual respect and a supportive healing environment, we believe persons with disabilities can achieve their full potential in every aspect of life! and transition to community based settings.

Responsibilities:
1. Assists with or provides activities of daily living for clients so that they can participate in their rehabilitation program, e.g., bathing, dressing, ambulating, bowel programs, bladder programs, personal hygiene, eating, taking vital signs, etc.

2. Carries out the nursing care plan as directed by the Clinical Nurse Manager or Staff Nurse so that the clients' receive the necessary and appropriate care. Communicates concerns about the clients' rehabilitation program to assure follow through and problem solving.

3. Encourages involvement of clients in their total rehabilitation plan so clients’ goals can be met.

4. Ensures that each client is treated with respect and dignity by staff, clients, and visitors so that the individual feels respected.

5. Assists in maintaining a safe, clean and healthy environment so that clients, co-workers, and visitors are! protected.

6. Demonstrates responsibility for personal growth! and development of job skills so that skills meet the changing needs of clients and the program environment.

7. Ensures compliance with all applicable legal requirements and accreditation standards. Ensures that all department activities are conducted in a manner that is consistent with Courage Center’s Compliance Program, including it Code of Conduct.

8. Answers telephones at nursing station; responds to clients' call lights, and make pages as needed.

9. Transports clients by wheelchair as needed.

10. Other duties as assigned.

Education/Work Experience:
Required: High school diploma and completion of the Minnesota state approved nursing assistant course.

Preferred: Experience, competence and sensitivity working with people with physical disabilities and people of diverse races and cultures.

License/Certifications:
Required: Must be in good standing on the Minnesota ! State Nursing Assistant Registry.

Must maintain education credits to fulfill status.

Current CPR certification

Other:
Experience, competence, and sensitivity in working with people with physical disabilities and people of diverse races and cultures.

Regularly interacts with residents, families, physicians, rehabilitation team and co-workers to provide information and to influence resident self-dependence. Requires very good writing and oral communication skills. Requires ability to work with residents who may have limited speech or cognitive ability. Computer savvy.

Physical Requirements :
Good visual and perceptual ability. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally, assisting with residents standing, walking, sitting, some reaching, bending on occasion. Ability to perform 20 or more client transfers per day. May come in contact with slippery floors, blood borne pathogens, cleaning chemicals, infectious dis! eases.
