Position Title: School Social Worker
Assignment: Creative Alternatives Program at Capitol View Center

FTE: 1.0 FTE (full-time)

Job Summary :
Provides services to students and families to help students increase their ability to function optimally and enhance learning. Collaborates with student support network (e.g., educational team, parents, and community agencies) to address the students' academic, emotional, and social needs. Works toward enhancing and fostering positive relations among the student, school, community, and parents.

Duties and Responsibilities :
Assesses needs and counsels students and families individually and in groups regarding social, emotional, behavioral and mental health interventions needed to enhance learning.

Mobilizes and coordinates community resources for students and families to address academic, behavioral, emotional, mental health and social needs.! Develops and builds community agency partnerships with servic! e providers to expand resources available to students and families. Communicates information to teachers and related service staff as needed to support student learning.

Identifies needs and provides services to students in crisis and coordinates with community resources during any student's mental health crisis. Works in assigned schools and throughout the district on an on-call basis.

Facilitates the intake process with families and collaborates with community service providers.

Summarizes student social-emotional needs and develops social skills training plans and proactive behavior management plans to support the students' success in the educational setting.

Administers and interprets professional social work assessments and evaluations in compliance with IDEA and MN special education laws/rules.

Consults with instructors and parents to design IEP goals and services to support the learning environment for increased educationa! l benefit.

Maintains professional progress notes and other records as well as updates to TPR and CTSS records. Summarizes student social-emotional needs and develops social skills training plans.

Develops and organizes activities for parental involvement.

Serves as a resource and advocate to students and families.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements :
Master's Degree, one to three years of work experience, certification as a LGSW, LISW, LICSW, or LSW, and licensed or able to obtain a license from the MN Department of Education as a School Social Worker. Chemical health experience preferred.

Special Education programs and services in Northeast Metro 916 are central to the Intermediate District's mission and fully integrated in its structure and decision-making processes. Programs provide special education and related service support to stude! nts from early childhood through age 21 with emotional/behavioral disor! ders, autism spectrum disorders, developmental and cognitive disabilities, deaf and hard of hearing disabilities, and learning disabilities.

Our highly structured, safe learning environments share these characteristics:

Classrooms of 4-10 students supported by 1-4 trained education assistants.

Behavior management support, on-site mental health professionals, due process and curriculum support staff.

In-house collaborative teams include: audiologists, behavior specialists, deaf/blind specialists and interveners, autism specialists, developmental adaptive physical education teachers, education assistants, health specialists, occupational therapists and assistants, physical/other health disabilities teachers, physical therapists and assistants, school psychologists, school nurses, school social workers, speech/language pathologists, and sign language interpreters.
