Nursing is a dynamic discipline that is continually changing and evolving to include updated knowledge, technologies, and advances in patient care. What is unique for nurses is the configuration and breadth of nursing practice, both in independent aspects of practice and the collaboration with other authorized health care providers.

Ambulatory care nursing is a unique realm of nursing practice. It is characterized by efficient, focused assessments of patients. Ambulatory care nursing encounters may occur face-to-face or via telephone or other communication devi! ces. The nurse in the ambulatory care setting assesses the pat! ient’s needs by collecting subjective and objective health status data from the patient or the patient’s care giver, and communicates this data to the health care provider. The ambulatory nurse may triage based on this data. The ambulatory nurse prioritizes the information collected based on the patient’s condition, the situation, and/or anticipated needs, and implements a plan of care in collaboration with the authorized provider, and evaluates the response of the prescribed treatment. The ambulatory nurse communicates and educates the health care provider’s instructions for care to the patient or the patient’s caregiver. Ambulatory care nursing is a specialty practice area that is characterized by working through situations and issues that are not always predictable.

The Clinical Supervisor functions in a structured care setting and adheres to the policies and procedures established by Sanford Clinic. The Clinical Supervisor must demonstrate knowledge o! f nursing principles for the clinic patient and oversee care for clinic patients of all ages following established standards and practices. The Clinical Supervisor provides supervision, management, and leadership of the clinical support staff and is expertly skilled in the functions of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and process/utilization improvement related to the EMR. The Clinical Supervisor serves as a leader by promoting and improving clinical patient care processes and related quality patient outcomes, as well as reacting calmly and effectively in emergency or tense situations. The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, clinical support staff and the public and recognizing opportunities and recommending solutions. The Clinical Supervisor must demonstrate effective communication skills, respect confidentiality, adhere to safety regulations, maintain records, generate proposa! ls, and exhibit and encourage principles of adult education and change ! management, The supervisor may serve in the clinical support staff role when staffing gaps exist and perform other duties as assigned by The Director of Clinic Operations and Executive Management.

The Sanford Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice (2004) and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements (2001) as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation for nursing care delivery. The professional nurse must adhere to the federal and state licensing guidelines and subsequent practice as well as the SC Administration predefined Scope of Practice Guidelines. The scope of registered nursing practice: Nursing diagnosis of human responses to actual or potential health problems of individuals or groups, providing preventative, restorative and supportive care, health teaching and counseling, case finding and referral; and administration, supervision, delegation, evaluation and teaching of health and nursing practi! ce; which may require substantial specialized knowledge, judgment and skill based upon the principles of the biological, physiological, behavioral and sociological sciences, and for which the registered nurse bears responsibility and accountability.

The supervisor may delegate to licensed and unlicensed personnel within their defined scope of practice, as well as students and new orients who provide patient care, treatment, and/or services as a part of their training.

The Clinical Supervisor for Sanford Worthington Oncology will work with an interdisciplinary group to assure that cancer patients effectively navigate the cancer care continuum from presentation with abnormal findings through survivorship or end of life care. This position may oversee other nurses as volume defines, to provide assistance to patients, families, and caregivers to help them overcome health care system barriers and facilitate timely access to quality medical and psychosocial care! . The Clinical Supervisor may also coordinates multidisciplinary cancer! conferences.

The position requires a self starter with excellent interpersonal skills who is patient, diplomatic, compassionate and good at problem solving.

Required Skills

Bachelor’s Degree in nursing preferred. Minimum of one to two years of professional nursing experience in a clinic care setting preferred. In-depth knowledge of specialty area preferred.

Currently holds the RN license with the applicable State Nursing Board and/or possess multistate licensure privileges. Functions within the legal scope of practice.
