Location: Minneapolis-Saint Paul Minnesota

  • This is a Continuing 9 month position*
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of an accredited LPN program.
  • Current licensure by the state of Minnesota to practice as an LPN with no restrictions.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds and work in normal environmental conditions for clinic work.
  • Experience wit! h Microsoft Office.
  • Experience using computer hardwar! e and associated software. *Will be required to attend ongoing and annual training and maintain demonstrated technical proficiency.
  • Demonstrated experience improving customer service and/or clinical operations relevant to position.
  • Demonstrated experiencel in organizing work, setting priorities, and meeting critical deadlines.
  • Demonstrates experience using tact, diplomacy, sensitivity, discretion and prudence in dealing with all personnel, patients, and those contacted in the course of duties.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Mobility to work in a typical clinic setting and use standard equipment.

Standing, walking and/or sitting for long periods of time.

Some bending, twisting, stooping, and stretching.

Requires repetitive hand and wrist motion to operate a keyboard.

Possible exposure to communicable disease and medical preparations in the clinic setting.

Demonstrated abi! ility with the foillowing:
Ability to demonstrate immune status to measles, mumps, rubella, varicella and hepatitis B.

Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.

Ability to push and pull wheelchairs, gurneys, oxygen tanks and IV poles.

Ability to perform CPR in an emergency situation.

Vision to read printed materials and VDT screens and provide necessary patient care.

Ability to respond to patient needs in emergency situations.

Duties/Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Deliver patient care under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or medical provider:

  • Provide safe, quality care appropriate to assigned role.
  • Provide comfort measures to patients.
  • Provide quality nursing support to medical and/or other staff.
  • Prepare exam rooms.
  • Restock supplies and/or disinfect/maintain equipm! ent as needed; set up procedure trays.
  • Clean exam rooms after ! use.
  • Report clinic maintenance as necessary.
  • Review charts and health histories for completeness for appointments and phone calls.
  • Obtain results of diagnostic tests.
  • Participate in revision and improvement of patient care protocols.
  • Recognize and respond to medical emergencies and unplanned situations as provided within BHS policies. Perform first aid and CPR.
  • Use customer service skills when working with patients.
  • Communicate provider's instructions.
Implement clinical patient care according to policies, procedures, protocols, and applicable regulatory guidelines:

  • Know when to seek registered nurse or medical provider's support and when to exercise own discretion.
  • Document care to standards of organization and industry.
  • Oversee medical and pharmaceutical supplies in assigned clinical areas.
  • Room patients; prepare patients for exam/treatments/procedures.
  • Interview patient to obtain history and reason for visit.
  • Maintain infection control practices.
  • Measure and record vital signs.
  • Assist with positioning of patients.
  • Monitor patients throughout treatment/procedures.
  • Clean and dress wounds.
  • Observe patients; report significant findings to registered nurse/medical staff.
Perform delegated medical treatments:
  • Administer prescribed medicines and immunizations.
  • Implement provider orders according to policies, procedures, protocols and applicable regulatory guidelines.
  • Assist with medical procedures and treatments.
  • Perform Point of Care testing and assigned procedures.
  • Collect and process lab specimens.
  • Perform phlebotomy.
  • Place lab orders.
  • Prepare referrals.
Record information in the Electronic Health Record in a timely manner:

  • Demonstrate computer! literacy, including but not limited to, data entry, retrieval, and rep! ort generation.
  • Document all information necessary to maintain an accurate record of nursing actions, patients' reactions to care and resulting patient outcomes.
  • Document pertinent medical communication with patients.
  • Report to provider any unusual occurrence per BHS policies and procedures.
  • Report information as needed to facilitate patient care:
  • Obtain and communicate test results.
  • Answer phones, route messages and return calls as directed by registered nurses and medical providers.
  • Handle all patient information within boundaries set by patients' rights to confidentiality.
  • Document referral and associated information if indicated.
  • Provide scheduling duties as needed.

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Boynton Health Service (BHS) performs key patient care functions and delegated medical treatments.
