Primary Function & Major Responsibilities Responsible for the primary care of all neonates (age 0 â€"30 days) in the Special Care Nursery/NICU. Provides education to and is a resource for the nursing and resident staff.Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job.Practices infection control policies, including Standard Precautions.Demonstrates knowledge of safety practices, fire and disaster policies and procedures.Performs and documents neonatal assessments.Develops a medical plan for each patient to meet the identified medical needs.Attends high-risk deliveries.Implements and manages medical plan for assigned patients.Assumes leadership role in transport of high-risk newborns as necessary.Remains current in clinical area.Provides direction in unit emergency/crisis situations in Neonatologist’s absence.Initiates contact for neonatal consultation within in the HealthEast system.Participates, as necessary, as an active member of patient care services.Participates in multi-disciplinary conferences to review patient care services.Participates in appropriate hospital committees and task forces as assigned.Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner/Clinician program.Current license to practice nursing in the State of Minnesota.Certification through NCC or obtained within one year of hire.Masters degree preferred.
Experience:
No prior experience is needed.Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Excellent communication and organizational skills;Strong problem solving skills;Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients of all ages (neonates â€" childbearing age). Possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status, and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s needs in relation to age and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.Regular/Temporary
