Job Description:
Completion of accredited associate, baccalaureate or master’s degree program.
Per Diem status requires a minimum of 3 years (6240 hours) of RN work experience in an acute care setting. Six months (1040 hours) of ICU or PACU nursing experience required.
ACLS and PALS certification is required at hire or must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.
Licensed as a registered nurse by the State of Minnesota.
Demonstrates at the time of employment and every two years thereafter, competency in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The year when demonstration of competency is not required, a general review of CPR is required.
Registered nurses who have not completed 520 hours of applicable nursing practice ! in the past four (4) years must successfully complete a recogn! ized refresher course in order to qualify for employment. Written information of certification validating successful completion of a refresher course must be provided before employment.
Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, this position is accountable for the total nursing care needs of the newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit and Pre-op Unit. In this unit, Post Anesthesia nursing practice involves the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of perceived, actual and techniques and surgical interventions.

- Special Procedures (e.g. Cardioversion, ECT, Radiology, etc.)
- Divergent group from newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and surgical
The nurse in PACU/Pre-op must have a unique knowledge base regard! ing anesthetic agents and techniques, the physiological and psychological bodily responses to these intrusions, vulnerability of newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric subjected to anesthesia, and medical interventions requiring anesthesia, coupled with all the principle of medical surgical nursing. Basis life sustaining needs are of the highest priority, and constant vigilance is required because the post anesthesia needs of the newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient are neither minimal nor episodic. The nurse in PACU will provide total nursing care to the divergent population of patients ranging from newborn to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric with multiple medical problems. The above staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients! . The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained th! rough education, training and experience.
