Experience Required: ! • Prior successful experience practicing midwifery strongly ! preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to balance work priorities in a rapidly changing enfironment.
• Ability to work independently in addition to being skilled in interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Demonstrates effective written and oral communication.

Education Required: • Completed RN education

• Completed a Nurse-Midwifery Educational Program accredited by the American Midwifery Certification Board.
• Must be certified by the Amercan Midwifery Certification Board or its designated certification board, OR must be within 6 months after completion of an advance practice nursing course of study and is in the process of meeting the requirement for certification. Failure to pass the certification examiniation will result in immediate suspension of privleges. Privileges will be reinstated upon evidence of successful completion of the certification process.

Job Description: ! The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) in collaboration and consultation with physicians, staff RNs and other health care professionals provides holistic, compassionate care to patients. The CNM practices independent management of women’s health care, focusing particularly on pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, care of the newborn, and family planning and gynecological needs of women, such as preconception care, care of the at-risk child-bearing woman, health promotion and disease prevention, management of common health problems and management of perimenopause and post-menopause. The CNM may participate in the management of care for the childbearing woman in collaboration with a OB/GYN physician consultant. Nurse midwifery practice includes admission to and discharge from the hospital and completion of a history and physical. The CNM may also provide consultation for well-women gynecologic care to clients who are in the hospital receiving other medical services as we! ll as in the clinic setting.

Additional Requirements: License Requirements: • Current Minnesota RN License
State Requirement

• Current active certification by the American Midwifery Certification Board (or its predecessor, the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM) Certification Council.

NMHC Standard

• Current Basic Life Support certification (provide copy of certification)
