Bachelor's degree in health sciences, public health, nursing, aging/gerontology, exercise science, kinesiology, or related fi! eld plus one year research project management experience, or combination of education/experience to total 5 years;

Experience with recruiting research subjects, planning recruitment events, and supervising others;

Ability to assume independent responsibility for day-to-day coordination of a research project;

Research database development and management experience;

Proficiency with computer skills such as word processing and spread sheet programs (ex. Microsoft Office, SPSS);

Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail;

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

Experience with working independently, multitasking and setting priorities within the context of coordinating a research project;

Available to work flexible hours as needed;

CPR certified or ability to become certified prior to hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior research experience including cli! nical trials research involving direct patient contact, recrui! tment, telephone interviewing, scheduling study visits, and delivering treatments to subjects;

Prior experience as a clinician who has direct patient contact;

Experience performing medical history and physical examinations;

Prior clinical experience working with older adults with cognitive impairment and dementia;

Experience working in the area of exercise and physical activity interventions;

Familiarity with website management and social media;

Experience working with diverse persons, entities, and underserved communities.

Duties/Responsibilities

Administrative (40%)

Provide overall coordination and management for the NIA-funded clinical trial on exercise intervention for older adults with Alzheimer's disease;

Manage flow of events and project activities and make necessary adjustments to ensure that operational components associated with the project (communications, subject recruitmen! t, staff training, subject exercise training, data collection, equipment needs, etc.) are completed;

In collaboration with the principal investigator (PI), ensure that the project plans are implemented according to timelines and within budget, including the provision of support/guidance to project faculty to ensure that project objectives, timelines and deliverables are met;

Select, interview, hire, and train research assistants (RAs) to make sure the study is appropriately staffed. Supervise all RAs to ensure all study activities are completed timely and with quality;

Plan and conduct systematic, on-going evaluation of study activities and outcomes;

Manage IRB correspondence and all personnel's satisfaction of ongoing IRB training;

Organize the investigator, DSMB, and research staff meetings;

Subject Recruitment, Screening, and Exercise Training (50%)

Recruit subjects to ensure meeting of annual recruitment tar! get;

Develop, implement, and oversee all recruitment strategie! s and ensure their timeliness and accuracy;

Establish and maintain relationships with external agencies and community partners as appropriate to ensure reaching subject recruitment targets each year;

Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of publicity materials for the project;

Perform subject screening, obtain informed consent/assent and HIPPA authorization, obtain health history, conduct physical exam, ensure subject enrollment and randomization;

Supervise data collection and exercise delivery to ensure subject safety;

Meticulously document all aspects of the research process including data management and human subject compliance documentation;

Provide individualized exercise training to study subjects;

Facilitate regular and timely communication with the PI, staff and offices within the School of Nursing, Academic Health Center, University, community partners, and external audiences associated with the projec! ts;

Coordinate care for subjects in case of emergency and follow up.

Data management (5%)

Develop study materials and databases for data collection and track adverse events;

In collaboration with PI, establish and maintain system for evaluating study outcomes

Coordinate, organize and manage collection, updating and storage of data to ensure timely and efficient retrieval of data for reports, tracking, decision-making, grant writing;

Evaluate data base options to facilitate effective grants management.

Budget/Fiscal (5%)

Administer and monitor budgets;

Analyze budgetary data;

Verify University and SoN budget reports;

Prepare, direct and/or collaborate in the preparation of written reports to the NIA, School of Nursing administration and other University offices.

Program/Unit Description

School of Nursing Adult and Gerontological Health Cooperative Unit. This g! rant is funded through 7/31/18. Recruit study subjects, manage day-to-d! ay activities, and coordinate all study activities for the FIT-AD Clinical Trial at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing. This clinical trial examines the effects of exercise on cognition and hippocampal volume in community-dwelling older adults with Alzheimer's disease. The research study is funded by the National Institute on Aging of the National Institutes of Health.
